We have a staff of activities professionals who plan diverse recreational and social programs for residents of all levels and abilities. Programs are offered during the day and evening and are tailored to residents’ preferences. Residents can choose to participate in many physical and social activities such as:
- Exercise programs
- Arts and crafts
- Cooking
- Musical programs
For lower functioning residents activity staff provides sensory stimulation to enhance the resident’s senses through smell, touch, sound and sight. Activities might include:
- Hand massages
- Soothing music
- Looking at pleasing pictures
- Smelling pleasant aromas
Family members, friends, volunteers, local school and community groups, dogs and other family pets are all frequent visitors to our home and enrich our homelike atmosphere.
Dining in a Kosher Environment
Under the supervision of a registered dietician and Rabbi our dietary staff prepares a wide variety of delicious, nutritious and therapeutic meals. Our food service is strictly Kosher and is prepared from home-style recipes. Residents are always encouraged to make suggestions regarding menus. Family members are encouraged to join our residents for meals any time.
Religious Life and Observances

At Greenwood House, we strongly believe it is important to observe Jewish cultural and religious traditions. We celebrate all of the holidays with religious services and traditional meals and religious services are held at least twice a week, led by either a Rabbi or a Cantor. On Shabbat, religious services are provided for our residents and some limited activities for very impaired individuals. Jewish holidays are observed with food and activities when appropriate, and oftentimes community and school groups will join our residents for special celebrations. We are fortunate to have several local Rabbis and Cantors visit the Home to conduct traditional services, lead religious study groups and lead holiday celebrations.
